"How to Face Your Fears and Indecision"

How to Face Your Fears and Indecision

“Trust the LORD with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the LORD in all you do, and he will give you success.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NCV)
The root of all indecision is fear. We all have different kinds of fears. We’re afraid we’ll make mistakes and embarrass ourselves. We’re afraid that we won’t be able to finish what we’ve started. We’re afraid we’re not good enough.

One of the fears that keeps us from making decisions is the fear of disapproval. Proverbs 29:25 says, “Fear of man is a dangerous trap, but to trust in God means safety” (TLB). The moment you start worrying about what other people think, it’s over, because fear of disapproval is always worse than disapproval.

So how do you get rid of a fear? There’s only one way: Face it, and move against it. You do the thing you fear the most! At some point you’ve got to stop aiming and pull the trigger.

The only antidote to fear is faith. You have to step out in faith. You’ve got to trust God and start moving.

In every major decision we’ve had to make at Saddleback Church, I was scared. But I did it anyway.

Courage is not the absence of fear; courage is moving ahead in spite of your fear. If you’re not afraid, you don’t need courage. Courage comes because you’re scared to death but you also believe it’s what God wants you to do, so you do it anyway.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust the LORD with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the LORD in all you do, and he will give you success” (NCV).

God supports those who move in faith. So here’s the question you need to ask: Where do you need to trust God? You haven’t really trusted him until you’ve attempted something you can’t do on your own power.

I don’t know what decision you need to make, but you need to prepare for it and then step out in faith. Why? Because your choices determine your character and your destiny.

Commit yourself to the Lord, and he will give you the wisdom and courage to make the decision that will bring you closer to who he made you to be.

Talk It Over

  • How have your fears kept you from moving forward in life?
  • It there a decision you need to make that requires you to trust God? What step of faith do you believe he is telling you to take?
  • What do you think it means to commit your decisions to the Lord?

"The 5 Biggest Advantages of Amazon Over E-Bay"

Five Big Advantages of Amazon Over E-Bay

1 - More traffic and more sales ~ Amazon now gets more traffic than eBay and their sales are growing at over 40% per year.  eBay has not seen that kind of growth since 2002.
Amazon does most of the work
2 - Amazon does most of the work ~ When you sell an item on eBay you have to collect payment, post feedback, pack and ship the item and handle returns yourself.  When you sell on Amazon, Amazon does all the work for you.  They collect the money (and take the credit card risk), professionally pack and ship the goods and they handle returns for you. You can learn more about that HERE.

3 - Sell on eBay and Use Amazon as a drop shipper ~ When you store your products at Amazon, Amazon will actually ship products you sell on eBay to your eBay customers –and they ship for less money than it would cost you to ship the same thing so that actually makes you more competitive on eBay. See "20 Secrets For Successful Selling On Amazon"

4 - You make more money ~ I can’t guarantee this will be true for everyone, but every seller I have spoken with who sells on both eBay and Amazon, says they make more money on Amazon.

5 - Seller Support ~ Seller support on Amazon is much more accessible than on eBay. It's quick and easy to email Amazon and if you want phone support during the day you can get an Amazon rep on the phone in usually less than one minute –and they will spend as much time on the phone as you need. This article, "How To Make Money On Amazon Using Fullfillment By Amazon's (FBA)Program" will help you get clarity & maximize this program.

One of my good friends Skip McGrath has developed a very simple, effective way to help anyone take advantage of this information in this article called, "eBay to Amazon: Making The Transition from Selling on eBay to Selling on Amazon"

"100 Killer FREE Ways to Promote Your Blog"

99 Ways to Promote Your Blog for Free

With millions of blogs out there, getting noticed can be quite a challenge for the new blogger. Simply posting content won’t lead to visitors. When you’re trying to establish your blog you’ll need to work on some promotion to help kick start your blog’s growth.

In this article we’ll focus on free options and we’ll look at 99 ways to promote your blog for free.

Since most of our readers are designers, some of the points are specifically applicable to design blogs, but the majority of the content is relevant to blogs in any industry or niche.

One of the most popular and common ways to get free exposure for your blog is by writing posts to be published at other blogs.

1. Write for other blogs in your niche/industry
A great way to get exposure to your target audience is to submit guest posts to other blogs in your industry or niche. Typically your guest posts will include a brief author bio at the end that will include a link to your own blog. This is one of the best ways to build name recognition and prove your expertise.

2. Exchange guest posts with other blogs in your industry/niche
While writing posts for other blogs is a great option for promotion, you’ll also need some content for your own blog. You can arrange with another blogger in your niche to exchange guests posts. Each of you will write a post that will be published at the others blog. You’ll both get quality blog content and you’ll both get some added exposure. Do this with a few different bloggers and you will be able to build several new links and reach a large number of readers.

3. Create a series with other bloggers
If you want to get creative you could coordinate with a few other bloggers in your niche to create a series. You can all write posts on related topics and interlink the posts to each other. Your posts can be published at your own blogs, or you can exchange them and publish the post at each others blogs.

4. Find guest posting opportunities with PostJoint
PostJoint is a site where you can find blogs who are looking for content. You create an account and submit your article and bloggers will have the opportunity to invite you to publish at their blog. PostJoint includes both free and sponsored content.

5. Find guest posting opportunities with MyBlogGuest
MyBlogGuest is another site that exists to help you find a home for your guest posts. Bloggers who are looking for free content can sign up, making it easier for you to find a place to publish your guest posts.

6. Find guest posting opportunities with GuestBlogIt
GuestBlogIt is a similar site where writers and publishers can sign up and collaborate. You can sign up for a free account and there is also an option to pay for a premium account with some added features.

7. Link to a free resource from your author bio
When your guest posts are published at other blogs the author bio will be key to how much you get out of your efforts. One of the best ways to get the most impact is to offer a free resource and link to it from your author bio. Rather than just placing a link and asking readers to visit your site, offer something of value (like an e-book) for free and you’ll likely get a much better response.

8. Use a call to action in your author bio
In your author bio you want to lead visitors in a certain direction by including a call to action. Use the call to action to get them to visit your site for the free resource.

9. Use your best articles as guest posts
When you’re just getting started with promoting your blog you should consider using your best posts at other blogs. Although your blog will of course need great content, by using your best posts at other blogs you’ll make more of an impression on those readers and you should pick up more new followers this way. As your blog grows your emphasis will shift and you’ll want to use your best posts on your own blog.

10. Write an article for your local newspaper
Writing for other blogs and websites isn’t the only option. You can also market your blog and yourself by writing an article for your local newspaper. Some articles may include a brief author bio, in which you could list your blog’s URL.

11. Write an article for an industry magazine
Likewise, you could also write an article for a magazine that would reach your target audience.

Blog Content

The content of your blog is also critical to your promotional efforts. A blog with great content is easy to promote, while a blog with poor content is difficult to promote no matter what approach you take.

12. Answer common questions from readers
When you’re deciding what topics to cover with upcoming blog posts, think about your readers and what problems they are facing and what questions they have. This is a great way to ensure that you publish content that is genuinely helpful to your readers.

13. Interview bloggers and others in the industry
Another type of post that can be very helpful to readers is an interview of another blogger or someone noteworthy within your industry or niche. One of the reasons that this can be helpful for promoting your blog is that in many cases the person being interviewed will share a link to the interview from their social media profiles, or maybe even link to it from their own blog.

14. Take a controversial stand
One approach for gaining exposure and getting noticed is to use controversy. Just covering certain topics can create controversy, or maybe you’ll take a particular stand on a debated issue. Of course, you’ll want to be able to back up your view. Controversial posts are often linked to and shared via social media.

15. Publish posts in a series
You can publish a series of a few different posts on the same topic to encourage repeat visitors. This will also allow you to cover the particular topic in great depth and detail, which can be helpful for building authority and establishing your expertise. You can also publish posts in a recurring series, such as posts on a specific topic to be publish on a certain day of the week.

16. Write helpful tutorials
Step-by-step tutorials can be extremely helpful for people who are looking to learn something specific. This is a great option for bloggers in the design/development industry, and there are countless things that you can teach through tutorials. These types of posts tend to attract links, and it is another effective way to demonstrate your expertise.

17. Create list posts
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, list posts can be effective for getting exposure. Readers can scan list posts very quickly, they tend to be shared a lot via social media, and a good quality list post can be very helpful and informative. The challenge is to create a list post that is original, since there are so many of them out there already.

18. Improve your blog post titles
One of the best ways to encourage readers to share your posts is to use engaging and interesting titles and headlines. With so many articles being published each day, most people will read headlines and skip over those that don’t grab their attention. If you’re effective at writing titles you can get more eyeballs on your post content and people will be more likely to share it via social media.

See How to Write Magnetic Headlines from Copyblogger.

19. Write in short paragraphs
Make your blog posts easy to read and scan by using short paragraphs. Most readers will prefer to scan or skim your content, and short paragraphs make this much easier.

20. Use sub-headers
Sub-headers also help to make your posts easy to read.

21. Offer email subscription in addition to RSS
If you’re a FeedBurner user you can offer your visitors to option to subscribe to your blog via email instead of RSS. Many people prefer email, so make sure you offer it. If you’re concerned about FeedBurner possibly shutting down, another option is FeedBlitz. FeedBlitz isn’t free, but it is reasonably priced.

22. Post consistently
Don’t go months between blog posts. There is no specific frequency with which you should post, but in most cases you’ll want to publish at least once per week to build an audience and maintain momentum.

23. Update old content when appropriate
In addition to adding new content to your blog, consider updating important posts that have become outdated.

Networking

I’ve never known a successful blogger who wasn’t well connected. Your network will have a big influence on your success as a blogger, so building your network should be a priority.

24. Respond to comments on your blog posts
When you’re trying to build your blog’s exposure comments are often hard to come by. You can show readers that you appreciate their comments and encourage more interaction by responding to all comments that you receive.

25. Reach out to other bloggers in your industry/niche: Millionaire's Brain
Make a proactive effort to get to know some other bloggers in your niche. Don’t be afraid to fill out a contact form or send an email just to introduce yourself. In the early days of building my blogs I made an effort to reach out to others with blogs in my industry, and some of those people are still in my network 7 or 8 years later.

26. Focus on quality of contacts rather than quantity
You don’t need to be connected to every blogger in your niche or have hundreds of people in your network. Focus on building solid connections with several key people rather than trying to have one-time contact with a lot of different people.

27. Connect with other bloggers who are at the same stage
One common mistake by bloggers when it comes to networking is to only attempt to network with the most popular and established bloggers in the industry. The problem with that is these people are probably extremely busy. If you’re in the early stages of building your blog make an effort to get to know some others who are just starting out.

People at a similar stage of blogging will generally be more responsive to you, and you’ll be able to help each other as you both grow your blogs.

28. Look for ways to help others: Manifestation Miracle
When it comes to networking the last things you want to do is forget that it is a two way street. If you only look for ways to benefit yourself, your networking efforts will not be very successful. Look for ways to help others and you’ll find that your network efforts pay off much more. You’ll develop better relationships, more of them, and people will be more interested in helping you when the opportunity arises. SaleHoo is a great resource to help you with this.

29. Participate in interviews for other blogs
Being interviewed by other bloggers is a great way to get to know them, so when you are approached to do an interview accept the request if at all possible.

30. Promote other bloggers’ posts with your social media profiles
Make an effort to share links to other people’s posts via social media. Everyone loves traffic, so other bloggers will really appreciate this. Also, some of them will reciprocate by sharing links to your content.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is one of the best promotional opportunities available. With an establish list you’ll be able to stay in close contact with your subscribers and you’ll be able to get much more repeat traffic than you could get otherwise.

31. Start an email newsletter .
In addition to offering your blog updates by email, I’d encourage you to also offer readers to option to sign up for a newsletter or mailing list. You can use this list without having to post to your blog, so it gives you added flexibility. Since we’re focusing on free options in this post, MailChimp offers a free plan for lists under 2,000 subscribers. If you’re willing to spend a small amount of money, I personally recommend Aweber, although I have used MailChimp as well.

32. Place a sign up form in a prominent location
Place your opt-in form somewhere where visitors are sure to see it. Common locations include the end of blog posts, the top of the sidebar, in a notification bar, or even in a popup.

33. Use a free resource as a bonus for subscribers
You can encourage visitors to subscribe by offering something of value as a free bonus if they sign up. Things like e-books, special reports, and other downloads are commonly used for this purpose.

With a quality freebie like the one at Affilorama, you’re likely to get exponentially more subscribers than you could get without it.

34. Email your list regularly
Once people sign up to your list they should hear from you on a regular basis. Your newsletter will be most effective if you develop the trust of your subscribers, and you’ll need to stay in contact in order to accomplish this.

35. Share links to your best posts
You can use your newsletter list to share links to your best posts and increase the reach of these posts.

36. Don’t overwhelm subscribers with too many emails
Most subscribers won’t want to be bombarded with emails. The ideal frequency will vary from list to list, but most subscribers won’t want to receive an email every day.

Social Media

Social media for blog promotion has changed over the years, but there are still plenty of opportunities to reach a new audience and quickly grow your blog with the help of social media.’

37. Start a sharing network with some blogging friends
If you know some other bloggers in your niche that are also trying to grow their blogs, consider an arrangement where you can help each other by sharing links to each others posts via your social media profiles.

38. Use social media for more than just sharing your own links
Because social media can be so effective for building traffic many bloggers use it just for this purpose. In order to have a real impact with social media you’ll need to get involved with the community of users. Most users don’t appreciate other users who only participate in order to promote their own content.

"How to Make Money Blogging From Home"

Everyone has heard of blogs and almost everyone would like to earn a little extra money -and wouldn't it be nice to make that extra bit of money from home? Blogging can be a way to work from home, make some extra money and spend time focusing on your favorite hobby or interest.

Blogging  For Fun --AND Profit!

It is no secret that thousands of people make money blogging…but many more thousands of people blog and don’t make a dime. In many cases it’s just that they don’t want to –they are blogging strictly for fun.  And that's all right.  Blogging can be a great way to connect with other people who share your interests or to reach out to friends and family.  Blogging can give back to you in plenty of ways that have nothing to do with money.  In fact, if I didn't get a dime I would still blog.  But in these hard times, who wouldn't appreciate some extra money every month?

You have probably seen ads for blogging programs that promise you can make $90,000 a month. I guess there are a handful of bloggers doing that  --but I'm going to pass on talking about wild claims. The fact is that YOU can make good money blogging –and you can have a lot of fun doing it.

How Much Can I Earn Blogging and How Hard Will I Have to Work?

It is pretty easy to earn a few hundred dollars a month, but what is really interesting is that once you start earning, it is even easier to grow those earnings. Blogging is about exponential income. You might find it takes you 2 or 3 months of working an hour or so a day to start earning $500 a month, but it takes a lot less time to double that, and double it again.

Personally I spend about five hours a week blogging between my blogs. That doesn’t sound like much, and it isn’t, but I am also writing books, newsletters and running our other businesses. But even with that small amount of effort, my blogs still earn over $2000 per month and I have made as much as $4000 a month from my blogs when I was really blogging actively.

One of my mentors Skip McGrath wrote How To Make Money Blogging From Home with a specific audience in mind.  He  wrote the book for people who:
  • want to make a few hundred (or maybe a few thousand) per month
  • are willing to be patient and work at doing what it takes to get there
  • have basic computer experience such as using email and surfing the web
Do you fall into that group?  If so, this may be just the thing for you.

How Do Blogs Make Money? How Can I Make Money Blogging?

There are several ways to make money blogging.

Affiliate programs – We show you how to locate the best affiliate programs and how to incorporate them into your blog –and how to get people to click on your links so you can actually earn an affiliate income.

Google AdSenseAdSense is Google’s advertising program for bloggers and website owners. It is free to join and you can make thousands of dollars a month from people clicking on your Google ads if you know how to do it.

ClickBank ClickBank is a source of thousands of information products that are ready made for you to sell. All you have to do is mention them in your blog and when readers purchase, ClickBank sends you a commission check. ClickBank pays every week, so this is one of the fastest ways to make money blogging

Advertising –There are dozens of companies that will pay to place advertising banners on your blog. This is actually my least favorite way to make money from blogging, but it does work.

The Blog Market – It may surprise you to know that once a blog has steady readers there is a good market to sell your blog.  How To Make Money Blogging From Home will show you how to do that.

How To Make Money On Amazon Using Fullfillment By Amazon (FBA)

1. FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) Explained
If you sell online, then you have likely already heard of Amazon’s fulfillment program called FBA. If you haven’t heard of FBA, well then the cat’s out of the bag now. Sellers have been leveraging FBA program for several years and the sellers who have embraced this new service and taken advantages of its capabilities have enjoyed a nice margin and truly transformed their businesses. Entering its’ fourth year, FBA stands for Fulfillment By Amazon and it is Amazon’s version of a fulfillment company.

Now fulfillment companies have been around for a long time providing storage and shipping services for their clients’ products, but what makes FBA different is that Amazon is also the marketplace for those items so they have an active interest in seeing the items sell. Additionally, FBA items are eligible for Amazon’s shipping promotions including Free Super Saver Shipping and Amazon Prime.

This is what makes FBA incredibly powerful.

Even if you don’t currently use FBA and even if you don’t ever want to use FBA, it is important to understand how FBA works and how your competition is using FBA in their business.

The 10 Reasons to Quit Your Job NOW!

"If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first." - Mark Twain
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 10 Reasons to Quit Your Job NOW!

This was going to end badly.

My boss screamed at me in front of my colleagues. I had done something wrong, of course. I had sent a product to the client without debugging it thoroughly. It was my fault. But I don’t like being yelled at.

Fortunately, I was sitting on a job offer that I decided to take at that moment. So the next day, I said the magic words: “I quit.”

Then a few years after that, I quit again, and never went back to work in the corporate world.

And now it’s too late. Now the course of history has finally written its next chapter. There’s no more BS. I’m going to tell you why you have to quit your job. Why you need to get the ideas moving. Why you need to build a foundation for your life, or soon you will have no roof.

1) The middle class is dead.

A few weeks ago I visited a friend of mine who manages a trillion dollars. No joke. A trillion. If I told you the name of the family he worked for, you would say, “They have a trillion? Really?” But that’s what happens when ten million dollars compounds at 2% over 200 years.

He said, “Look out the windows.”

We looked out at all the office buildings around us.

“What do you see?” he said.

“I don’t know.”

“They’re empty! All the cubicles are empty. The middle class is being hollowed out.”

I took a closer look. Entire floors were dark. Or there were floors with one or two cubicles but the rest empty.

“It’s all outsourced or technology has taken over for the paper shufflers,” he said. “Not all the news is bad. More people entered the upper class than ever last year.”
But, he said, more people are temp staffers than ever.

That’s the new paradigm. The middle class has died. The American Dream never really existed. It was a marketing scam.

And it was. The biggest provider of mortgages for the past 50 years, Fannie Mae, had as their slogan, “We make the American Dream come true.” It was just a marketing slogan all along. How many times have I cried because of a marketing slogan? And then they ruined it.

2) You’ve been replaced.

Technology, outsourcing, a growing temp staffing industry, and productivity efficiencies have all replaced the middle class.

The working class. Most jobs that existed 20 years ago aren’t needed now. Maybe they never were needed. The entire first decade of this century was spent with CEOs in their Park Avenue clubs crying through their cigars, “How are we going to fire all this dead weight?” The recession finally gave them the chance. “It was the economy!” they said. The country has been out of a recession since 2009. But the jobs have not come back. I asked many of these CEOs: “Did you just use that as an excuse to fire people?” And they would wink and say, “Let’s just leave it at that.”

I can see it happening across every sector of the economy. Everyone is getting fired. Everyone is toilet paper now.

Flush.

3) Corporations don’t like you.

The executive editor of a major news publication took me out to lunch to share some ideas with me.

But before I could talk, he started complaining to me: “Our top writers keep putting their Twitter names in their posts and then when they get more followers they start asking for raises.”

“What’s the problem?” I said. “Don’t you want writers that are popular and well-respected?”

(When I say a “major news publication,” I am talking MAJOR.)

He said, “No, we want to be about the news. We don’t want anyone to be an individual star.”

In other words, his main job was to destroy the career aspirations of his most talented people; the people who swore their loyalty to him, the people who worked 90 hours per week for him. If they only worked 30 hours per week and were slightly more mediocre, he would’ve been happy.
But he doesn’t like you. He wants you to stay in the hole and he will throw you a meal every once in a while in exchange for your excrement. If anyone is a reporter out there and wants to message me privately, I will tell you who it was. But basically, he’s all of your bosses. Every single one of them.

4) Money is not happiness.

A common question I'm often asked is: “Should I take the job I like, or should I take the job that pays more money?”

Leaving aside the question of “Should I take a job at all?”, let’s talk about money for a second.

First, the science: Studies show that an increase in salary only offers marginal to zero increase in “happiness” above a certain level. Why is this? Because the basic fact is: People spend what they make. If your salary increases $5,000, you spend an extra $2,000 on features for your car, you have an affair, you buy a new computer, a better couch, a bigger TV, and then you ask, “Where did all the money go?” Even though you needed none of the above, now you need one more thing: another increase in your salary. So, back to the corporate casino for one more try at the salary roulette wheel. I have never once seen anyone save the increase in their salary.

In other words, don’t stay at the job for safe salary increases over time. That will never get you what you want—freedom from financial worry. Only free time, imagination, creativity, and an ability to disappear will help you deliver value that nobody ever delivered before in the history of mankind.

5) Count right now how many people can make a major decision that can ruin your life.

I don’t like it when one person can make or break me. A boss. A publisher. A TV producer. A buyer of my company. At any one point, I’ve had to kiss %$# to all of the above. I hate it. I will never do it again.

The way to avoid this is to diversify the things you are working on so no one person or customer or boss or client can make a decision that could make you rich or destroy you or fulfill your life’s dreams or crush them. I understand it can’t happen in a day.

Start planning now how to create your own destiny instead of allowing people who don’t like you to control your destiny. When you do this count, make sure the number comes to over 20. Then when you spin the wheel, the odds are on your side that a winning number comes up.

6) Is your job satisfying your needs?

I will define “needs” the way I always do, via the four legs of what I call “the daily practice.” Are your physical needs, your emotional needs, your mental needs, and your spiritual needs being satisfied?

The only time I’ve had a job that did that was when I had to do so  little work so that I had time on the side to either write, or start a business, or have fun, or spend time with friends. The times when I haven’t are when I was working too hard, dealing with people I didn’t like, getting my creativity crushed over and over, and so on. When you are in those situations, you need to plot out your exit strategy.

Your hands are not made to type out memos. Or put paper through fax machines. Or hold a phone up while you talk to people you dislike. One hundred years from now, your hands will rot like dust in your grave. You have to make wonderful use of those hands now. Kiss your hands so they can make magic.

One can argue that not everyone is entitled to have all of those needs satisfied at a job. That’s true. But since we already know that the salary of a job won’t make you happy, you can easily modify lifestyle and work to satisfy at least more of your needs. And the more these needs are satisfied, the more you will create the conditions for true abundance to come into your life.

Your life is a house. Abundance is the roof. But the foundation and the plumbing need to be in there first, or the roof will fall down; the house will be unlivable. You create the foundation by following the Daily Practice. I say this not because I am selling anything, but because it worked for me every time my roof caved in. My house has been bombed, my home has been cold and blistering winds have given me frostbite, but I managed to rebuild. This is how I did it.

7) Your Retirement Plan is Nothing

I don’t care how much you set aside for your 401(k). It’s over. The whole myth of savings is gone. Inflation will carve out the bulk of your 401(k). In order to cash in on that retirement plan, you have to live for a really long time doing stuff you don’t like to do. Then suddenly, you’re 80 and you’re living a reduced lifestyle in a cave and can barely keep warm at night.

The only retirement plan is to Choose Yourself. To start a business or a platform or a lifestyle where you can put big chunks of money away. Some people can say, “Well, I’m just not an entrepreneur.”

This is not true. Everyone is an entrepreneur. The only skills you need to be an entrepreneur: an ability to fail, to have ideas, to sell those ideas, to execute on those ideas, and to be persistent so that even as you fail, you learn and move on to the next adventure. Or be an entrepreneur at work. An “entre-ployee.” Take control of who you report to, what you do, what you create. Or start a business on the side. Deliver some value, any value, to anybody, to somebody, and watch that value compound into a career.

What is your other choice? To stay at a job where the boss is trying to keep you down, will eventually replace you, will pay you only enough for you to survive, and will rotate between compliments and insults so you stay like a fish caught on the bait as he reels you in. Is that your best other choice? You and I have the same 24 hours each day. Is that how you will spend yours?

8) Excuses.

“I’m too old.” “I’m not creative.” “I need the insurance.” “I have to raise my kids.”

I was at a party once. A stunningly beautiful woman came up to me and said, “Warren, how are you!?”

WHAT? Who are you?

I said, “Hey! I’m doing well.” But I had no idea who I was talking to. Why would this woman be talking to me?  It took me a few minutes of fake conversation to figure out who she was.

It turns out she was the frumpish-looking woman who had been fired six months earlier from the job we were at. She had cried as she packed up her cubicle when she was fired. She was out of shape and looked about 30 years older than she was, and now her life was going to go from better to worse. Until... she realized that she was out of the zoo. In the George Lucas movie, “THX-1138” (the name of the main character was also “THX-1138”), everyone’s choices are removed and they all live underground because above ground is radioactive. Finally, THX decides it’s better to die above ground than suffer forever underground where he wasn’t allowed to love. He wasn’t free.

He makes his way above ground, evading all the guards and police. And when he gets there, it’s sunny, everyone above ground is beautiful, and they are waiting for him with open arms and kisses. The excuse—“but it’s radioactive out there!”—was just there to keep him down.

“This is easy for you to say,” people say to me. “Some of us HAVE to do this!” The now-beautiful woman had to do it also.

“What are you doing now?” I asked her.

“Oh, you know,” she said, “consulting.”

But some people say, “I can’t just go out there and consult. What does that even mean?”

And to that, I answer, “Ok, I agree with you.”

Who am I to argue? If someone insists they need to be in prison even though the door is unlocked, then I am not going to argue. They are free to stay in prison.

9) It’s okay to take baby steps.

“I can’t just QUIT!” people say. “I have bills to pay.” I get it. Nobody is saying quit today. Before a human being runs a marathon they learn to crawl, then take baby steps, then walk, then run. Then exercise every day and stay healthy. Then run a marathon. Heck, what am I even talking about? I can’t run more than two miles without collapsing in agony. I am a wimp.

Make the list right now. Every dream. I want to be a best-selling author. I want to reduce my material needs. I want to have freedom from many of the worries that I have succumbed to all my life. I want to be healthy. I want to help all of the people around me or the people who come into my life. I want everything I do to be a source of help to people. I want to only be around people I love, people who love me. I want to have time for myself.

THESE ARE NOT GOALS. These are themes. Every day, what do I need to do to practice those themes? It starts the moment I wake up: “Who can I help today?” I ask God when I open my eyes. “Who would you have me help today?” I’m a secret agent and I’m waiting for my mission. Ready to receive. This is how you take baby steps. This is how, eventually, you run toward freedom.

10) Abundance will never come from your job.

Only stepping out of the prison imposed on you from your factory will allow you to achieve abundance. You can’t see it now. It’s hard to see the gardens when you are locked in jail. Abundance only comes when you are moving along your themes. When you are truly enhancing the lives of the people around you.

When every day you wake up with that motive of enhancement. Enhance your family, your friends, your colleagues, your clients, potential customers, readers, people who you don’t even know yet but you would like to know. Become a beacon of enhancement and then when the night is gray, all of the boats will move toward you, bringing their bountiful riches.

Don’t believe me? Stay with a boss that hates you. A job that is keeping you locked on a chain around your neck, tantalizing you with incremental increases in pay and job title. Stay in a culture that is quietly replacing the entire middle class. This is not anyone’s fault. This is the tectonic plates of economics destroying an entire suburban culture that has lasted for almost 100 years.

Until you choose yourself for success, and all that choice entails, you will be locked into the prison. You will stare into your lover’s eyes looking for a sign that he or she loves you back. But slowly the lights will fade, the warmth of another body will grow cold, and you will go to sleep dreamless in the dark once again.

20 Secrets For Successful Selling On Amazon

20 Tips For Selling On Amazon

By: Skip McGrath

Amazon is the world’s largest online retail selling site. When most people buy something on Amazon they think they are buying from Amazon, but third party sellers sell over 33% of all items sold on Amazon.

I started my online selling career on eBay in 1999. In 2006 I became a seller on Amazon. Our Amazon business never really took off until 2010 when I joined the Amazon FBA program (I will explain this below). Now our Amazon business dwarfs our eBay business. We are selling approximately 6 to 7 items on Amazon for each one sold on eBay.

It is very easy to register on Amazon. Scroll to the bottom of the Amazon home page and you will see a list that looks like this:
How to Sign Up for Amazon
Click on the link that says Sell on Amazon and you will go to a page that looks like this:
Tips for Selling on Amazon
Click on either the link to Sell as a Professional (recommended – for why see below) or Sell as an Individual. Amazon will walk you through the steps to get started. They are very simple and you can start selling your first items within about 5 minutes.

So let's get started with our tips for selling on Amazon:

1. Register as a professional seller - There are three big reasons to do this:

  1. As an individual seller Amazon charges you 15% Selling commission plus 99¢ per sale. The fee to become a professional seller is $39.95 per month, but as a pro seller you are only charged 15% --and not the extra 99¢. So if you sell 40 items per month or more, you will actually save money on fees.
  2. As a professional seller you are allowed to create listings for products that are not currently being sold on Amazon. You can also create product bundles which we will show you how to do later as they are a great way to increase your profits.
  3. Amazon has several categories that are restricted and you must apply to sell in these (Clothing, shoes, jewelry and Auto Accessories are just a few). You must be a pro seller to apply to sell in these categories.
2. Sell with FBA - FBA stands for Fulfillment By Amazon. This is a program whereby you send all of your merchandise into Amazon and when it sells, Amazon ships it for you. Amazon also handles the customer service, communications and returns and refunds. Since we moved from merchant fulfilled to FBA our sales have more than tripled. It is true that fees in FBA are higher than merchant fulfilled, but your merchandise will sell so much faster that you will still make greater profits. And some of those fees are offset by the cost of boxes and shipping materials which Amazon supplies as part of the fee.

In addition consider the huge timesaving of not having to individually wrap and ship 20 to 30 packages a day. This allows you more time to do high-value tasks such as product research and sourcing.

3. Follow The Rules – Just like eBay, Amazon has lots of rules and regulations, but unlike eBay, they are fairly stable. Amazon does not change their rules and policies as often as eBay so once you learn them they are easy to understand and follow. Once you log into Seller Central you can access this page that has the overall Amazon policy agreement - https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1161302
To find specific policies on selling, log into Seller Central and click on the help button. Then type Amazon policy into the search bar. When the page comes up look in the left hand column and you will see a detailed list of the various policies related to all of your Amazon activities.
Amazon also has a great resources page for FBA sellers. Log into Seller Central first and use this link to access the resources:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-9?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201100990&qid=1386457203&sr=1-9
4. Win the Buy Box to Increase Your Sales – Whenever a buyer does a search, several results come up. When the buyer clicks on one of the results, the page that comes up is the buy box. According to Amazon over 78% of all sales are made through the buy box, so winning the buy box is crucial to your success.

There are three ways to win the buy box every time:
  • Be the lowest price including shipping. If a seller’s account is in good standing and they are the lowest price including shipping, their product will go in the buy box ahead of other sellers. Note however, if a seller is in FBA, then Amazon assumes their shipping cost to be zero. The reason for this is that Amazon Prime members get free 2-Day shipping on all products and all other Amazon buyers get free standard shipping on any item or shipment that totals over $35.

Here is an example: I am selling a set of chef’s knives for $129 + $9.90 shipping. So the total with shipping is $138.90. If an FBA seller has those same set of knives, he can price them at $137.90 - $8.90 over my selling price but, $1 under my total price and he will win the buy box because Amazon assumes his shipping cost is zero.
  • Sell an item than no one else has. If you find a unique item and list it on Amazon, since you are the only seller, you will have the buy box every time.
  • Use Amazon’s bundling Policy to Create Unique Items. If someone is selling the same item as you are on Amazon, think of creative ways to create a unique product bundle. For example, one of the products I sell is Hazelnut oil.

    Win the Buy Box

By creating a bundle of three cans, I created a unique item and win the buy box every time (until someone copies me which sometimes happens).

You can also combine products to create a unique item. This is a set of 4 kitchen knives I bundled together with a knife sharpener.

    Create Unique Amazon Items

You can combine almost anything to create unique product bundles. The one rule however, is if you create a bundle that includes a media item such as a book or a DVD, you cannot list it in the media category and you cannot combine media products with other media products.
5. Answer Customer Communications quickly – When you get a question from a customer, Amazon wants you to answer it within 24 hours and if you do not that is a demerit against your account. You can see customer questions in your Seller Central just to the left of the page and you can set up your account so customer questions are forwarded to your email so you can answer them even if you are not currently working on Amazon. With smart phones you can even answer them from your phone.

6. If you are merchant fulfilling ship all orders within 1 business day and always enter the tracking information – Amazon requires you to state the handling time for all products and to meet that expectation. Not doing so can lead to losing featured seller status and if your numbers are really bad you can lose your account.

7. Don’t trust UPC codes when listing items – When you have an item for sale, you enter the UPC code into the Amazon page where it says Add a Product. But it is your responsibility to make sure the item you are selling is the exact same item as listed on Amazon. What happens is that manufacturer’s update their products with new features and don’t always change the UPC code. This happened to me a couple of years ago. I bought some home security camera systems from a liquidation outlet.

Unbeknownst to me, the reason the manufacturer sold to the liquidator was they had improved the item by adding a recordable disk drive but they did not change the UPS code. So I listed my item and when it sold I got everyone of them returned along with a couple of bad feedbacks.

It is your responsibility to make sure that what you are selling on Amazon is exactly like the product in the listing. Not only look at the photographs closely but read the full description and the specs to make sure what you are selling is the 100% identical product.

8. Describe product accurately – this may seem like a no-brainer, but believe me if there is even the slightest difference between the product you are delivering and what you describe in your listing, customers will notice. This will lead to returns and negative feedback.

9. Ask for Feedback – Amazon buyers seldom leave feedback unless you ask them. I currently use Feedback Five. This is a third party service that automatically sends out an email to each customer telling that if there is anything whatsoever wrong with the transaction to let us know and give us a chance to fix it. The emails are sent out automatically and contain a link for them to just click on and leave feedback. After 5 years on Amazon my feedback was still under 50. After just two years of using Feedback Five, my feedback is now over 750. And those emails have helped me prevent several negative feedback situations when customers contacted me first before leaving feedback.

10. Use Larger Images and Follow Amazon Image Guidelines – Amazon now requires images to be at least 1006 pixels on a side in certain categories and encourages it in all categories. The reason is that the large size allows for buyers to use the zoom feature. Amazon also has other rules for their main image including that the product be shown on a plain white background. Log into Seller Central and Click here to see the entire listing of Amazon image guidelines.

11. Solicit Product Reviews – If someone leaves a feedback that mentions they liked the product, I always send them an email thanking them for the feedback and leaving them a link where they can leave a product review for the product. According to Amazon, positive product reviews can increase sales on those items by over 12%.

12. Reduce Storage fees with Just in Time (JIT) Inventory Management
Just In Time refers to getting your inventory to Amazon just before it runs out. This way you minimize the time items are in storage and therefore racking u storage fees. Also this means you have less cash tied up in inventory at any one time.

Amazon offers a feature called Replenishment Alerts. You can set an alert for fast selling products. You can set the alert at the number of units or weeks of cover. I know how long it takes me to order most of my products, get them delivered to me and then to Amazon so I tend to use “Weeks of cover” for my ordering threshold. When the item reaches the specified limit, Amazon sends you an email. Here is what you see when you set replenishment alerts:
JIT Inventory Management

13. Raise your Average Selling Price (ASP) to reduce your fees and increase profit margins – Two of the fees you encounter in FBA are the Order handling fee ($1.00) and the Pick and Pack fee ($1.02). That totals $2.02. Now if you are selling an item for $12.99, those two fees combined take 15.5% of your margin. But sell an item for $27.95 and those two fees are only 7.2% of your margin.
Here is another example. These are three products I am selling in Amazon FBA and their fees:
Item
Selling Price
Fees
Fees as a % of Margin
Silk wrap bracelet $14.99 $5.42
36.2%
Salt & Pepper Mill Set $89.97 $16.87
18.7%
Stick Blender $144.00 $23.35
16.2%
So as you can see, the higher you go up in price the lower your fees as a percentage of your sale. So as you source inventory, look for products with a higher average selling price.

My goal is $35.00. I have not hit that yet but am working towards it. Currently I am just over $34 ASP so I am getting close. The reason is I have several fashion jewelry products that sell for just under $20, but I keep them because they are insanely profitable. My cost on those items is between $3.50 and $6.00, so even with the high fees, I am still making good money.

14. Label your items and shipments correctly when sending to FBA – believe me I know from experience it is very easy to mislabel products. When you put a shipment together create some type of system to double check that each product has the correct label.

I once mixed up some bracelet labels. The bracelets were identical except for the color of the stones. I put the label for the bracelets with the blue stones on the packages of the bracelets with the clear stones and vice versa. I didn’t discover the problem until I got a negative feedback from a customer who received a bracelet with white stones when she ordered blue. I was able to get the feedback reversed, but it was costly (see next tip).

My system now involves a checklist and we do not package items in such a way that we cannot see the item through the package, which allows us to perform a double check as we are putting the items in the box to ship.

15. Go the extra mile to remove negative feedback – Whenever I get a neutral or negative feedback, the first thing I do is immediately email the customer with a very sincere apology and I include a $10 Amazon gift card as a token of my sincerity. I do not ask the customer to remove the feedback in that email. What happens is the customer usually writes me back thanking me for caring and for the gift card. I then answer that email and do two things. I explain how the error was made and I request that they remove the feedback.

In the case of the bracelet issue I mentioned above, the woman was still upset because the bracelet was a gift and a new one could not get there in time. So I offered to mail a replacement bracelet to her sister whom the gift was for and we even gift wrapped it and sent it priority mail so she got it in time and I did that at no charge and she finally agreed to remove the feedback.

In all honesty this works about 60% to 70% of the time. There are just some customers who are so angry they won't budge so there is nothing you can do about that but live with the feedback. But if you can get over half of the bad feedbacks removed you can stay ahead of the game. Note: the magic number with Amazon is 95%. If you fall below that you automatically lose your featured seller status and your account is in danger of being cancelled.

16. Pack your shipments to Amazon correctly to avoid damage, delays and penalty fees – Amazon has some fairly strict requirements when you send items to their FBA warehouses. Here are some of their rules:

Choose the correct size box for your units. If you choose too large a container, you will need to fill it will sufficient packaging material so that the box will not collapse under the weight of heavier boxes during the shipping and receiving process. For best results, use a new, single-wall, corrugated shipping container with a high-burst or crush-strength stamp
  • Use a rigid box with flaps intact
  • If you are reusing boxes from previous shipments, be sure to remove any previous shipping labels or markings to avoid confusion by the carrier.
  • Wrap all items separately
  • Use adequate packaging material
  • Use strong tape designed for shipping
  • Do not use string or paper over-wrap
  • Do not use loose Styrofoam pellets for void filler.
  • Use a single address label that has clear, complete delivery and return information
  • Use two inches of cushioning between each of your units and the inside of the box.
  • Neither point-of-sale containers nor pallet-sized boxes, also known as "Gaylord’s," may be used.
  • Boxes cannot be bundled together using bagging, taping, elastic, or extra straps.
  • If you are reusing a retail box to ship different products (for example, a large printer box to ship smaller media products), be sure to cover or remove any scannable barcodes on the outside of the box to avoid confusion during the receive process.
  • If an item breaks in shipping Amazon used to automatically reimburse you for it. But they recently introduced a new regulation. Amazon requires you to have two inches of packing material on all sides and top and bottom of the box. If an item is broken and you do not have the required two inches then Amazon will not reimburse you for the item.
There are other rules, as well that you need to know about.
  • Suffocation labels – Any poly bag with an opening of 5 inches or larger requires a suffocation label on the bag.
  • Poly bag your bundled items. We used to ship bundled items in shrink-wrap but Amazon now requires all bundled items to be poly bagged.
  • You may not ship any glass container containing liquids or gels in glass jars larger than 4 ounces.
  • Expiration Dates – If you are sending any food items (including pet foods and treats) that have expiration dates, Amazon requires an expiration date label on both the outside shipping carton and on the product. The date must be at least 6 months out when you send it to Amazon. As the product nears its date if it has not sold Amazon will destroy it.
  • All of the packaged items you send to Amazon must pass a 5-foot drop test (This does not apply to products sent in the manufacturer’s retail box)
  • If an item arrives at Amazon without a product label, or suffocation label or requires Amazon to do any special handling prior to storing, you will be assessed a handling fee of 75¢ per item and you will receive a policy violation warning notice.
17. Manage Your Inventory proactively – Amazon assigns sales ranks to all products based on the recency and quantity of the sale. So whenever you run out of inventory, the sales rank of that product just drops every day there is no product there. I had one product I import from China that was a big seller with a sales rank of less than 2000 in the kitchen category. Since I order them in large quantities it took a while to replace them when they ran out. Within 30-days of not having that product in stock, the sales rank sank to over 60,000. It took two months of selling just to get the sales rank back up to the 10,000 area.

So the lesson here is to manage your inventory so you don’t run out of anything. You should know how long it takes to get an order placed, shipped to you and shipped to Amazon. This is especially important as you approach seasonal holidays when sales can suddenly accelerate quite quickly.

18. Use Amazon FBA to Fulfill Your Multi-Channel Orders – If you sell on eBay, Etsy, Sears.com or your own website, you can use Amazon to fulfill your orders from those sites. If you look at your FBA inventory page, one of the action dropdowns is Create Fulfillment Order. See image:
Amazon FBA
When you select an item and click on go, you get a page where you fill in the buyers name and shipping address that looks like this.
Amazon FBA example
Since this is an actual fulfillment order I have blacked out some of the contact info. But what you do here is enter all of the buyer's information and then click continue and you get a screen that looks like this:
FBA Screenshot
Notice the shipping charge is $5.95. That is quite a bit less than UPS or Priority Mail. This may not be the best example as this product is quite small and light and I could also ship cheaper by first class mail, but I use an automation service called AutoMCF.com, which actually automates this process for me. When an item sells on eBay it deducts the item from my FBA inventory, creates a fulfillment order automatically and automatically puts the tracking info into eBay as soon as Amazon generates it.

19. Negotiate Exclusive Selling Arrangement with Suppliers – In tip #4 I told you one way to win the buy box every time is to have an item to sell that no one else has. One way to do this is find products and manufacturers that will give you the exclusive deal to sell on Amazon. Here is how I do that:

I attend a lot of wholesale trade shows. When I am there I look for smaller manufacturers and in many cases the owner of the company is right there in the booth. At the last Seattle Gift show we found a small jewelry company that makes everything in the USA. Both of the owners were at the show. I asked if they sold to eBay and Amazon sellers and they said they did not. So I went into my pitch.
“You know the reason most small companies like yours don’t want to sell on eBay and Amazon is that sellers start lowering your prices below what your brick and mortar retailers sell at and this get them upset with you. So what I do is represent companies exclusively on eBay and Amazon so I can hold your MAP prices.

I also look out for your brand online and let you know if anyone is doing anything to undercut the brand. And we give you approval of all our images and what we are saying about your product.

We do this for several companies and I would be happy to provide references.”
I used this very same pitch with the company at the Seattle Gift show and we now represent their entire line on eBay and Amazon on an exclusive basis.

20. Learn How To Use The Amazon Keywords tool – When you create a listing Amazon gives you a field to list keywords. Keywords are words or phrases that buyers type into the Amazon search box to find products. But there are a couple of tips most sellers don’t know.

discovered a new vendor with a great new tool. The company is Merchant Words, and they make an excellent Amazon keyword tool that I have tested and it works. I tried it out on a few slow selling products. And Bang! When I got up the next morning I had a sale on a product that had not sold in over 3 months. Since then I have been going through my listings changing and updating my keywords and I have seen a definite increase in sales on those items I have changed.
Here is what the keyword field looks like in Amazon create a product form:
Learn How to Use the Amazon Keywords Tool
  • Amazon used to search titles, bullets and descriptions for keywords. They no longer do that. Now they only look at the title and the keyword field. So do not repeat keywords in the keyword field that you use in your title.

  • Use competitor’s names as keywords. Here is an example. One of the products I sell on Amazon is a concealed carry pistol holster. One of the top brands in that market is a company called Galco, which I do not sell. So if I have a holster listed for a Colt 1911 pistol I might put “Galco 1911 holster.” This way when someone searches the term Galco 1911 holster, my holster listing will come up on the same page. Since my holster is similar but cheaper I can often win that sale.
  • One of the products I sell is outdoor firepits. But some people type fire pit while others use firepit, so if I use Firepit in my title, I want to use fire pit as one of my keywords.
  • Although Amazon is pretty good at correcting spelling, they are not perfect so I often put popular misspellings in as keywords. Some of the jewelry items I sell have turquoise stones in them and a popular misspelling is "torurquoise", so I use that as one of my keywords.
  • Basically try and think of what other words people might type in when looking for something. For example if you sell hand cream, you would want to add hand lotion to your keywords. If anything is called by different names always use all the other names for it.
Well that is it for my twenty tips. Over time I hope to grow this list as I learn more tips. So you may want to check back on this article once in a while. And if you have any tips you can think of that I may have missed, please use the contact us form on this website to let me know.
